What is it?

Fertility awareness is a form of birth control that relies on women tracking their menstrual cycles in order to avoid having sex on the days they are most likely to get pregnant.

How does it work?

There are several different methods used to track one’s menstrual cycle. All of them involve paying close attention to your body and calculating where you are in your cycle. Ideally, more than one method is used at a time.

How effective is it?

Fertility awareness is not the most effective form of birth control because human error happens often. Women with irregular periods will find it even less effective. Bottom line – it takes a lot of planning and self-discipline from both partners for fertility awareness to be effective on its own.
