What is it?

The cervical cap is a small, soft silicone cup that fits deep inside the vagina to cover your cervix and prevent pregnancy.

How does it work?

The cervical cap covers your cervix and prevents semen from entering the uterus. To work properly, the cervical cap must be used with spermicide.

How effective is it?

The cervical cap is 86% effective at preventing pregnancy when used properly. However, it is most effective if you have never given birth. If you have, the effectiveness drops to 71%.

Where can I find it?

The cervical cap requires a prescription from your nurse or doctor. The only brand available in the U.S. is called FemCap® and can be purchased at pharmacies, drugstores and most supermarkets.
